The Ghost of Colonel J Sanders

A myth submitted to the site by Tom

Auchnagatt, Aberdeenshire, Scotland

Jan peered through the windscreen as rain lashed against it. His long, Brown hair falling in his eyes as he overtook another car. Jan was driving to the south of England on a motorway to meet his cousin. He glanced at his clock 23:26, he had been driving for four hours straight.

Jan stopped off at the side of the road Which was sheltered by old, gnarled trees and spread a blanket on the back seats, then he lay down to sleep. Jan woke, he looked at the car clock, 01:37. Jan rolled over and tried to sleep, but he couldn't. Suddenly he heard a scratching sound, and then a pitiful mewing. Jan got out of the car to investigate. He saw two yellow globes, like eyes, staring at him through some bushes. Jan realised they were cats eyes. He started towards them, when the cat leapt onto a tree and down again. The cat walked into the trees, Jan followed, oblivious to the imminent danger.

The cat took Jan deeper into woods, Jan followed, suddenly he realised he was not alone... (Insert spooky music here)...

Jan spun on his heel, and came face to face with, what looked like an old Colonel. The figure wore Grey clothing, with a grey hat, with black boots and a black belt.. He had a single bladed sword and a flintlock pistol. Jan looked at his face, the skin was going grey and decaying, he had a grey beard, but the weirdest thing about him Jan thought was his piercing yellow eyes. He rasped out in a gruesome voice:

"I am Colonel J Sanders, who are you?"
"I-I- I'm Jan" replied Jan
"what makes you think you can trespass here?"
" I was following this cat"
Suddenly Jan tried to head but the Colonel, but his head went right through him, the cat leaped at Jan, Jan kicked, and his foot went right through it. He started to run and he ran and ran.
" come, after him" Cried the Colonel, and the cat sped up after Jan, with the Colonel by the cats side.

Jan stumbled to his red car, pulled out his keys and got in. he put the keys in the ignition, and pulled out onto the motorway. 'This isn't right, there were more people on the road when I pulled in' Jan thought, but he soon forgot about it and focused on reaching his cousins house.

When Jan reached his cousins house, it was nine O'clock. He went to the door and knocked. After a few seconds the door opened, to reveal a short man, with black hair and blue eyes.
" Jan!"
"Bill!"
The two cousins embraced, and Bill said "come in to my house"
Jan walked through the door and looked around. The house was large, built around the eighteenth century.

Bill started to speak " so tell me, how did you get here, most people come from the Town, over there" he pointed west, but you came from the East." Jan pulled out his pocket map, and traced the road he had taken.
" Bill, your wrong, I came down the motorway, and so arrived from the West."
"but that's impossible you arrived from the East".
Jan said " Bill do you have the portrait of the old man with the grey beard, you know, your relation, also do you have any maps from the Eighteenth century?"
" yes, I'll get them now". Bill ran up the stairs and came back with a portrait of an old man, with a grey top, with a grey hat, with grey beard, a sword, a pistol and yellow eyes. Bill handed a map to Jan. Jan studied it and the portrait with growing horror. " Bill whats your last name?"
"Sanders"
Jan thought, "Who built this house?"
"My Great-Great Grandfather, Colonel James Sanders"
' Colonel James Sanders eh? Colonel J Sanders perhaps? ' Jan thought. Jan almost screamed aloud at the thought. "That's him there" said Bill pointing at the portrait, the portrait of the Ghost Jan had met in the woodsÖ..
Jan looked at the Eighteenth century map, he saw that in the Eighteenth century, there had been a road that came past this house, coming from the East, but it had been demolished, surely, not a ghost of it remained?.....
